To check if Windows 10 has any big updates waiting for install, follow these instructions.  Note that you may want to do this at the end of the day or when you don't need to use the computer for a couple of hours.  The big updates can take a long while, particularly if you have a slow Internet connection.

First, if you're using a laptop or tablet, make sure it's plugged in to A/C power.

Second, check that your computer will not go to sleep:

Click on the Start button, then the Settings gear:

Then click on System:

Click on Power & sleep in the left column and check the settings in the center section.  Make sure the settings for Sleep for When plugged in are set to Never.  Note, if you have a laptop or tablet, you will see two sections; one for plugged in and one for on battery.  (Make sure it is plugged in for this procedure.)

Next, click on Home in top left corner:

Then click on Updates & Security:

Click on Check for updates:

Then walk away and let it run.  When it's done getting ready it will ask to restart.  The restart takes a long while to complete.  However, if you start the process when you're done for the day and let it run, Windows will restart automatically in the middle of the night to finish the install.

Note, it is possible that some updates get installed relatively quickly as prerequisites to the big update.  You may want to check the computer after 10-15 minutes to see if it's done and wants to restart.  If it is, it's likely you need to restart and repeat the update process.
